RoomTone Privacy Policy

Effective date: 8/27/2026

RoomTone is developed and published by LOS FELIZ MEDIA, LLC (“we”, “us”). Questions about this policy: info@roomtoneapp.com.

The short version

RoomTone has no accounts, no servers of ours holding your data, and no analytics or advertising SDKs. Everything the app records about you — your listening history, your streak, your preferences, and the frequency measurements taken from your room — is stored only on your iPhone.

The microphone is used only when you tap Match My Room, for a few seconds at a time. That audio is analyzed as it arrives and then released. It is never written to storage, and it never leaves your device.

The sections below explain each of these in full.

1. The microphone

When it is on. The microphone is activated only when you tap the “Match My Room” button and grant permission. It is never activated when the app launches, never during onboarding, never while the app is in the background, and never while you are asleep. Each capture lasts a fixed three to five seconds and ends automatically. iOS shows its own orange microphone indicator throughout, and the app shows its own indicator as well.

What happens to the audio. Each buffer of audio is transformed into a frequency spectrum in memory and then discarded. The audio itself is never written to a file, never cached, never placed in a database, and never transmitted anywhere — not to us, not to any third party. There is no code path in RoomTone that can send audio off the device, and no server of ours that could receive it.

What is kept. The result of the analysis is retained on your device: a set of numeric frequency-band magnitudes, an overall loudness value, a classification label such as “low rumble” or “broadband hiss”, and a timestamp. These numbers describe the acoustics of a room. They are not a recording, they cannot be converted back into audio, and speech captured during a sample cannot be recovered or reconstructed from them.

If you decline. RoomTone works without microphone access. The full sound library, the sleep timer, background playback, and your history all function normally. You will not be repeatedly asked to reconsider. You can change the permission at any time in iOS Settings.

2. What RoomTone stores on your device

All of the following is stored locally on your iPhone, inside the app’s own container, and is accessible only to RoomTone:

WhatWhereWhy
Listening sessions — start time, duration, which sound was used, whether room matching was used, and your one-tap rating if you gave oneSwiftDataYour history and streak
Room measurements — frequency band magnitudes, loudness, classification label, timestampSwiftDataShaping your custom mask, and re-using a match
Preferences — onboarding status, chosen sound and take, volume, night-window hours, listening intentSwiftDataRestoring the app as you left it
A counter of how many free room matches have been usedKeychainApplying the free allowance

We do not have access to any of it. None of it is uploaded, backed up to our systems, or shared.

One thing worth calling out about the counter. The free-match counter is stored in the iOS Keychain rather than in the app’s database, and Keychain items are not always removed when an app is deleted. That means the count of free matches you have used may persist if you delete RoomTone and install it again on the same device. It is stored as a single number. It is marked as non-synchronizing, so it is never copied to iCloud Keychain or to any other device, and it contains no identifier of any kind. Restoring onto a new device starts fresh.

Device backups. If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, that backup may include RoomTone’s local data, in the same way it includes data from your other apps. That backup is made by Apple under Apple’s terms, not by us, and we cannot access it.

3. Network connections

RoomTone makes no network requests for analytics, tracking, advertising, crash reporting, pricing, or any other purpose. The app does not contact any server we operate, and there is no configuration file, identifier, or device information sent to us at any time.

Subscription pricing and offers are configured directly in App Store Connect and delivered to the app by Apple’s StoreKit framework. Section 4 describes that purchase-check process, which is a request between your device and Apple, not to us.

4. Purchases

RoomTone Premium is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the transaction; we never see or receive your name, payment card, billing address, or Apple Account details.

The app asks Apple’s StoreKit framework whether an active subscription exists in order to unlock unlimited room matching and the take picker. That check happens between your device and Apple. Apple provides us with aggregate, non-identifying sales and subscription reporting in App Store Connect — totals and trends, not individuals.

Your purchase is governed by Apple’s terms and Apple’s privacy policy, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

5. Crash reports

We do not include any third-party crash reporting or analytics SDK.

If you have turned on Share With App Developers in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may send us crash logs and performance data for RoomTone. Apple collects and delivers this, and Apple’s documentation describes what it contains. It is aggregated and not tied to your identity. You can turn it off at any time in that same Settings screen. We use it only to find and fix crashes.

6. What we never do

  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone.
  • We do not track you across apps or websites. RoomTone’s privacy manifest declares no tracking and no tracking domains.
  • We do not show advertising and we contain no advertising SDK.
  • We do not require or offer an account, so there is no profile to build.
  • We do not use your data to train machine learning models.

7. Deleting your data

  • Clear History in Settings deletes your stored sessions, streak, and room measurements, after a confirmation step.
  • Deleting the app removes its entire local database and preferences, with the single exception of the free-match counter described in section 2.
  • Because we hold nothing about you on any server, there is no account for us to delete and no export for us to send. If you would like written confirmation of that for your own records, email us at info@roomtoneapp.com.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, or similar laws — including the rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal information, and to object to its processing.

RoomTone is built so that these rights are satisfied by the app itself: the data is on your device, under your control, and deletable by you at any time. We are not in possession of it, and we do not act as a data controller for any personal information, because RoomTone makes no network requests to any server we operate.

We have not sold or shared personal information in the preceding twelve months, and we do not do so now.

If you believe we have handled your information improperly, you may contact us at info@roomtoneapp.com, and you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

RoomTone is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. The app has no accounts, no messaging, no user-generated content, and no advertising.

10. Data retention

Local data stays on your device until you delete it or delete the app. We set no expiry, and old room measurements are pruned automatically by the app to keep the database small. We retain nothing on our side, so there is nothing for us to expire.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how RoomTone handles data, we will update this page and change the “last updated” date above. If a change is significant — for instance, if a future version added a feature that transmits data — we will say so in the app before that feature is used, not only here.
